Who's steering this ship?

The Bible is clear that God the Father has established Jesus as the Head of the church.

He is the Apostle, Prophet, Evangelist, Senior Pastor and Teacher in the universal church. All our life and growth comes from our union with Him. Through Jesus, God shepherds and leads His church.

Apostles
The Bible says that apostles are first in the church. This mean that we submit to the teachings/doctrine that the early apostles established in the church (found in the New Testament). It also means that we receive modern-day apostles into the church.

As part of Newfrontiers, a worldwide family of churches, we benefit from this kind of input and oversight. They lay good foundations, equip the church for service and make sure the local leaders in the church are acting in a Godly way and not causing harm.

Elders/pastors/overseers

As head of the church, Jesus leads these apostles to spot and appoint men who are committed members of that local congregation, to bring direction, teach the Bible and keep order in the church, as well as keeping a look out for wolves sneaking into the church in sheep’s clothing. The Bible refers to these men as elders or overseers or pastors and uses these terms interchangeably. The elders currently are Richard Young, Stef Liston and Simon Tarry (pictured left to right).

Deacons
The elders need to be able to focus on teaching the word in big and small settings and in praying for the church. To this end, the Lord has created an office in the church called deacons – men and women of stature and character who help to serve the church in many different ways, releasing the elders to do what they do and being a blessing to the church. The deacons currently are Dave Mance, Dave Smith and Heja and Lina Salih.
